Водопад является одним из самых больших в России. На этой реке золото начали мыть в 1835 г. первое описание этих мест появилось в 1771г. До этого здесь жили тувинцы, жили они в юртах. Земля была чрезвычайно богата. Руские заразили хакасов оспой. Коренные народы стали жить в страшной бедности.
Интересно мировоззрение древних людей, живших в эпоху неолита (5-7 тыс.л. до.н.э.) Верховья реки ассоциировались у них с рождением, восходом, теплом, светом, а низовья – со смертью, холодом, концом света. Став жизненно важным источником для человека, река заняла ключевое место в мировоззрении древних сибирских народов. После смерти душа человека отправлялась вниз по течению реки в страну мертвых. В эту эпоху на поверхности скал появились изображения лодок с людьми. Людей не хоронили в земле, а отправляли вниз по реке на плотах. Археологи не нашли ни одного погребения эпохи неолита на юге Красноярского края
